Outdoor Play & Learning
Our students have been embracing the many benefits of Outdoor Play and Learning, where the natural environment becomes an extension of the classroom. The goal of Outdoor Play and Learning is to foster curiosity, confidence and resilience by providing meaningful opportunities for students to engage with nature and learn through play.
Whether they are building, problem-solving, observing wildlife or working together on creative challenges, students are developing communication, critical thinking and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging setting. Outdoor learning also supports students' physical wellbeing, independence and appreciation of the environment, helping them become active, capable and confident learners.
Last week, the Year 4/5/6 class and I had a long discussion about introducing a loose parts area to our playground. We have decided that the tennis court is a great place to contain this loose parts play as we can lock the area when it is not supervised. We discussed the fact that they would need to make ongoing risk assessments as they played and make decisions which keep themselves and others safe while also allowing them to have fun in a creative outdoor environment.
We are building our collection of loose parts by gratefully accepting donations from families and community members. The students would love any donations of the following which you may have available:
Rags, rope, tape, milk crates, blocks of wood, tyres, nets, mats
